The Broadway House Guide
Who Owns Broadway?
Three commercial operators run 33 of the 41 Broadway theaters. The rest belong to nonprofit companies, Disney, and one independent.

The Shubert Organization (17 houses, about 20,315 seats), Nederlander Organization (9 houses, about 13,579 seats) and ATG Entertainment (7 houses, about 9,013 seats) control 85% of every seat on Broadway. Four nonprofit companies run 6 more houses, Disney has one on 42nd Street, and Circle in the Square is independent.
The operator is the landlord: it owns or leases the building, books productions into it, and usually runs the box office and the online ticket seller. That is why seat maps, fees and ticketing sites look the same across one operator’s houses — and why “which theater is it in?” tells you where to buy.
