Imani's take

Same trick as the Majestic: steep stadium-style orchestra, so the rear rows aren't a compromise. Everyone enters through one lobby, so the pre-show crush is real — come early.

— Imani Carter, spectacle editor

Where to Sit at the Richard Rodgers Theatre

Levels, bottom to top: Orchestra → Balcony. A large house. Boxes: box seats on two tiers near the front.

One balcony over the orchestra

Two levels only, so the balcony is the whole upper house — its front rows are some of the best seats in the building for anything with choreography or a big set. The orchestra here is steep, stadium-style seating, so the back rows see over heads far better than in most houses — rear orchestra is a real seat, not a compromise.

About those boxes

Box seats look glamorous and sit at a hard angle to the stage — expect to lose part of the far side of the set. Buy them to be seen, not to see.

Our rule of thumb

For a play, get close and center. For a spectacle, get high and center. Partial-view seats are discounted for a reason — check the seat map before you buy.

Good to Know

  • Steep stadium seating in the orchestra; its rear is one story above the street
  • Orchestra and upper level are entered from the same lobby
