Studio 54

Formerly the Gallo Opera House and the New Yorker Theatre

  • 1,006 seats
  • 2levels
  • Proscenium stage
  • Opened 1927

Imani's take

Yes, that Studio 54. Opera house, TV studio, disco, theater — the room has range. Almost a perfect half-and-half split between orchestra and balcony, and it's the northernmost house in the district, so leave time.

— Imani Carter, spectacle editor

Where to Sit at the Studio 54

Levels, bottom to top: Orchestra → Balcony. A mid-size house.

Seat count by section
  • Orchestra 519 (52%)
  • Balcony 487 (48%)

One balcony over the orchestra

Two levels only, so the balcony is the whole upper house — its front rows are some of the best seats in the building for anything with choreography or a big set. The last rows of the orchestra sit under the overhang — fine for a play, a little boxed-in for a big musical.

Where the seats actually are

The largest block is the orchestra, with 519 seats.

Our rule of thumb

For a play, get close and center. For a spectacle, get high and center. Partial-view seats are discounted for a reason — check the seat map before you buy.

Good to Know

  • Opened as an opera house, served as a CBS studio, then became the famous nightclub before Roundabout turned it back into a theater in 1998
  • Shares the building with the 54 Below cabaret
